Peace or Pain

Trauma Therapy

If you’re struggling with the aftermath of trauma, you don’t have to suffer alone. Unfortunately, many types of therapy for trauma, are not based on scientifically proven approaches. That’s why it’s crucial to work with a therapist who has been trained in evidence-based methods. Talk therapy, for example, may not be the best approach according to the American Psychological Association. In fact, seeing a therapist who is not trained in scientifically valid methods, can even make things worse for you. At Peace or Pain Counseling, we offer only evidence-based trauma therapy. Let us help you take the first steps toward healing and peace.

This type of therapy can also help you address at the same time, related mental health issues  such as addiction, substance use, sexual issues, eating disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety, depression, anger issues, and cognitive issues commonly associated with PTSD and any other symptoms associated with trauma.

If your trauma is sexual in nature, consider a trauma therapist that is also a Certified Clinical Sexual Therapist (CST). This extra certification, allows him/her to also address sexual disorders that may result from trauma. Only Florida requires additional training for sexual trauma or sexual disorders, (other states allow regular therapists to advertise they are sexual therapists without additional training). Florida requires an extra 120 graduate hours, 30 hours of supervision, and a formal Masters’ Thesis Paper. Google the website “modernsextherapyinstitutes.com” for information on the certification requirements in Florida.
